Dr. Durlubh Kumar Sharma received his postgraduate degree from IIT Delhi after his graduation from the University of Delhi. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Delhi. His research interests include biomass, petroleum, coal, separations and refining , nanofuels, biotechnology, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, systems biology, climate change, environmental pollution control, nanocomposites, catalysis, hydrogen energy, fuel cells, medicinal chemistry, process development, reaction engineering, mass transfer, etc. He has produced 23 Ph.Ds and supervised more than 50 M.Tech and several M.Sc., M. Phil and B.Tech projects. He has published more than 170 research papers in national and international journals. He is on the Editorial Board of Petroleum Science & Technology, an International Journal published from USA and The Scientific World Journal. He has been interacting and collaborating with several industries. He has transferred technologies to industries dealing with coals and lignites. He has also filed several patents. He is a reviewer of books and research papers for research journals. He has edited a book on Energy Engineering -Theory and Practice. He is a Life Member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and Indian Carbon Society.

Holder of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowship during 1984-85, Professor Sharma was awarded scholarships by Japanese (Monbusho Scholarship), French (High Level Fellowship) and U.S. (Fulbright Scholarship-TO grant) Governments. He had been at the North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA (on their Fellowship and as Visiting Faculty ) during 1989-90. He was also offered the Visiting Industrial Professor position during 1990 at the Chemical Engineering Department of the North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA. He had visited Fraunhofer Institute of Factory Operations and Machine Dynamics, Magdeburg, Germany and Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany as Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Alumnus during 2010. He had also visited Max Planck Institute of Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany as Distinguished Research Fellow (Visiting Guest Scientist) during 2011. He has completed several sponsored and consultancy projects. He has also organized several workshops for industries. He has served on several technical committees.
