Dr. (Ms) M.G. Dastidar is a member of the faculty of Centre for Energy Studies as Professor. She received an M.Tech degree in 1973 from Chemistry Department and a Ph.D. degree in 1979 from Chemical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. She joined the Centre for Energy Studies in 1979 and for the last thirty years has been actively involved in teaching and research in the areas of energy and environment.
Her major research activities include: Coal and biomass conversion processes, (pyrolysis/gasification), Coal deashing and biodesulphurisation, Wastes and Effluent treatment laying major emphasis on bioremediation of heavy metals, coal / ash slurry handling, solid wastes, high rate biomethanation, black liquor lignin, etc using biotechnology as the prime route. She has been instrumental in developing processes and operational strategies through research projects sponsored by Department of Biotechnology and Ministry of Environment & forests. She has developed infra-structural facilities for coal / biomass / environment research in CES.
Dr. Dastidar has guided a number of Ph.D and M.Tech students and taught a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Energy and Environment. She has contributed to more than ninety research papers published in various international and national journals and conference proceedings. She has been a consultant to industries, a reviewer for DBT, NRDC and Ministry of Environment & forests, a member of the expert team of CMRI, Dhanbad and a life member of various, academic societies. Currently, she is the coordinator of Interdisciplinary M.Tech programmes of CES.<br><br>
In the year 2003, she has been awarded the Scientist of the Year Award-2002 by National Environmental Science Academy.
