Tara Chandra Kandpal is presently a Professor of solar energy at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Prof. Kandpal has a Master's degree in Physics from Kumaon University, Nainital and a Ph. D. degree in Solar Energy from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. His current areas of research interest include solar thermal utilization, techno-economics of renewable energy technologies and renewable energy education with special focus on India. Prof. Kandpal, along with other colleagues and research students have attempted to develop simple yet generalized frameworks that facilitate (i) estimation of the utilization potential of various renewable energy technologies and identification of niche areas for intervention, (ii) financial feasibility assessment of renewable energy projects with internalization of technical parameters, and (iii) analysis of various existing and potential incentives for promoting renewable energy utilization. Prof. Kandpal has taught a large variety of courses in the field of energy in India and abroad. He has also been involved in administrative activities at IIT Delhi in several different capacities.
